The Kuranda Scenic Railway runs from Cairns to Kuranda, in northern Queensland, along the Barron River. The line was originally built to service settlements and mines on the Atherton Tablelands which became inaccessible in bad weather conditions. Completed, it led to Cairns becoming the major port in far north Queensland. The line is still part of the QR network.
